Rules for selling your own produce

National rules

  • MPI: Exemptions from the Food Act 2014. Ministry for Primary Industries: growers who sell their own fruit and vegetables directly to consumers, for example at a roadside stall or a farmers' market, do not need to register under the Food Act 2014 but must sell safe food. Selling to another outlet, such as a shop or someone else's stall, needs registration. (source, checked 7 October 2026, read from a search engine's copy)

Summaries of the cited sources as of the check date, not legal advice. Rules change; read the source before selling.
